A Wedding at Ca's Xorc, Mallorca: Paola & Ruennda's Sunset in the Serra de Tramuntana
High above Soller, where the Serra de Tramuntana folds down toward the sea, sits Ca's Xorc Luxury Retreat, a former olive mill surrounded by terraced gardens, old stone walls and endless views over the valley. It is one of those places that slows you down the moment you arrive. For Paola and Ruennda, it became the setting for a wedding day that felt wonderfully unhurried from beginning to end.
The Hour Before Sunset
If I had to pick one thing that stayed with me from this day, it would be the light. In the last hour before sunset, everything at Ca's Xorc turned soft and golden, the mountains slowly changed color, and from the terrace the view stretched all the way down the valley. Paola and Ruennda stood right in the middle of it, laughing, completely at ease. There was so much joy between the two of them that it pulled everyone around them in.
The Day
Everything took place at the retreat itself, which gave the day a calm, intimate rhythm. The morning belonged to the quiet moments: getting ready between old stone walls and open windows, small details, deep breaths, the scent of the gardens drifting in.
In the afternoon, Paola and Ruennda took their time. There was no rush and no schedule pressing anyone forward, just the two of them wandering through the terraces and olive trees, taking it all in.
And then came the evening. As the sun sank toward the sea, we walked out for the sunset session, the part of the day I had quietly been waiting for. Golden light, long shadows, the valley glowing below, and two people completely wrapped up in each other. One of those evenings you simply don't want to end.
Captured on Digital, Analog and Super 8
I kept the technical side of things simple and let the day lead. Alongside digital images, I photographed on analog film with my Leica M6 and filmed on Super 8. For a day like this, the grain and movement of film feel just right: warm, a little imperfect, timeless, like the memory itself.
Looking back through the images and footage now, it's the light of that evening and the ease between Paola and Ruennda that carries through every single frame.
